My days with my Son's doggie Sadie and her love for kids and anything "green"

My dear Sadie is a Basenji mix and her birthday is on January 5th 2005. That makes her 6 years old and 15 days old as of today, January 20th 2011.

My son Apoorva Jain got her in October 2007 from the Austin ASPCA. She was almost 3 years old at the time. She was only in the shelter for a week and the description outside her kennel said she knew the command "Sit" so when he said it, she sat. he thought that was cute so he decided to see her in one of the viewing rooms.

It took about 5 seconds from the time she entered the room for my son to decide that he was going to take her home for keeps. She was very friendly and sweet and sat right in between his legs as he petted her. As they say, sometimes dogs choose their owners and not vice-versa!

My son Apoorva thinks Sadie IS passive-aggressive whatever her birth order. She is passive with humans and aggressive with dogs and I who takes her for walks twice a day can surely vouch for that! She isn't aggressive with all dogs, though. My Mom thinks Sadie is the best and sweetest dog ever.

On July 21st 2010 the heartworm test on Sadie was done costing us $40.00 at the Campbell Animal Hospital (on the corner of Campbell and North Garland) and it turned out to be negative on three accounts: namely:

Heartworm: negative
Ehrlichia: negative
Lymes Test: negative

Her weight was 49.20 lbs

I always thank my son for leaving Sadie with us. She is to US really like a "grandchild" we have never had and we relish taking care for her.

My Mom and I are enjoying having Sadie around and it forces me to give up from lazy sleeping and get up to go to walk daily!

My mom is always faces guilt of leaving her home and truly so because Sadie does not stay by herself in a room longer than a minute or if she is asleep. When I move from bedroom to study to kitchen she FOLLOWS me around or just goes to Mom's bedroom, sitting even in front of the bathroom that she never enters though!

When I take her out for a walk she comes wagging her tail wildly into my closet where I get dressed up. She sits patiently waiting for me to get ready. Then the moment I touch my shoes and/or socks she goes nuts!! Getting out of the closet and coming back in immediately. Butting her nose against my legs/shoes/hands and then sneezing hard and repeating all the above all over and forcing her nose and mouth into my raised legs!

Recently in the early morning summer walks she goes up-to a street around the corner of Holford and Chainhurst and then STOPS in front of a house that sold recently turning back towards our home. When I pull her to continue the walk she comes to me but AGAIN resists and stops to return (this gets repeated many times then she PULLS me hard towards home, in the reverse direction. At last I am forced to take her on a different route on Tabernash which she does not complain. It does not make any difference for me but for the past three/four days she has REPEATED the same behavior (only in the mornings) and I wonder if she is making me give in to her uncanny dog senses that maybe superior than my man senses!!

Recently Sadie "agreed" to walk on Chainhurst street because I took her out late like 9:00 am This has happened only three times and all three times it was because I woke up late like 8 am or 9 am! I got so tired of her antics of pulling me backwards to our home's direction that I stopped going to walk on Chainhurst street. Now I have made my round trip on from Creekwood to Tabernash and back the regular per Sadie's liking.
